This is just a little follow-up on the AI in medicine article I did a while ago.
AI is being pushed as the next great messiah but it is just another tool. It is a great tool. But it is just another human tool.
All AI does is turn gabillions of words of text of millions of people (mostly dead people) into vector spaces (an abstract mathematical object) so one can pick the next most likely word. It throws in a little randomness to the statistical pick to give the AI an appearance of novelty (?creativity). So it is just an algorithm (a recipe), data, and statistics.
If the AI is trained on pixels we get a new fancy name called generative AI which means pictures and videos.
Various corporate AI bigshots are now lining up in front of congressional committees demanding their own FDR three letter regulatory agency to control AI. Total bull she eye teh! They are there to make sure they stay on top and the new little innovators are screwed….so they can be bought by one of the big boys.
Can someone tell me what AI crime has been committed? This is not a “Keanu Reeves in the Matrix” world.
These do-gooders DO realize that getting some old people to sign off on tons of vague laws written on many tons of paper that next to nobody (except billing lawyers) will read, is a way to keep them as the AI elites of this business. In the end all this legislation is going to make the copyright bull she eye teh of the present age, where Disney and friends get to keep all the money decades and decades after a creator has died look like kids’ play.
Just look at the recent failures of USA (they are de facto regulators of the world now) government regulation…the FDA had the OxyContin Sacklers, the SEC completely missed the FTX crypto hoax until Twitter space blew the whistle..….now they want an FDA (Federal Digital Agency) for AI stuff. Fcking nuts! Oh. And don’t forget. Really expensive (for the taxpayer, of course!)……
New laws are not needed here. Old laws (regulation) needs to be rolled back.
